Golfing in Carlisle, Ontario

Mom and Dad came up for the weekend so that Susan and Mom could go to the knitting expo together. Much fun for them and a great excuse for the boys to go play some golf.

While the girls were sleeping, the boys wolfed down some bacon sandwiches and coffee just as the sun was coming up. Then it was off to the Carlisle Golf and Country Club in Carlisle, Ontario. We had never been to the course before, but liked the way it looked on the website.

The drive to the course took us through several rural Ontario communities. The country side was dotted with farms and livestock – such a peaceful place. The weather was cool, 55 degrees, but the sun was shining and the sky was blue. We got to the course, checked in and headed to the first tee. After a quick warm up, we were off.

Dad’s eyes are still recovering from his laser surgery, but he was a good sport. Paired with Josh, he hit a few great shots, but probably got much more out of coaching Josh through his round. Those two are so much alike (can you say “competitive”), they had a great time.

Jake and I had some fun talking trash through the first nine. He was holding his own and very (very) proud of out driving his Dad on the first few holes. At the turn, we were neck and neck but it did not last (for him!). He still had a great day; breaking 100 for the first time on a regulation 18 hole course. I finished with an 84 which was a pretty good payoff for all of the golf I have played this year. Can the 70’s be far away? (The answer is “yes”, very far away. But, there is nothing wrong with dreaming a bit.)

As always, the best part of the day is having three generations of Haskins’ men spending time together. A of of laughs (many at each others expense!) and a little wisdom passed down. We all left wishing we lived closer so we could do this more often!
