Haiti Earthquake Update, From Chilliwack

Please read as much of this as you can. This is personal and close to my heart. That’s why it’s here on the subtext blog.

Hello Everyone from all over.

Specifically to the Chilliwackers that read this thing, here’s news I’ve collected from friends and family currently in Haiti, or on their way there this week, or working with people in the Port au Prince area:

First, at least one bible school has collapsed with children inside of it.

All three of the Medical Sans Frontiers Hospitals in the area have been shattered by the quake.

There are many people that have still not made contact with people they are connected with back home, if you’re a prayer, please continue to pray for relief efforts and those that have been trying to rescue people from under the buildings.

Also, a large jail was also damaged in Haiti, freeing convicts as a result.

If you already know what difficulties Haiti was facing before today, you also know that the situation just got worse.

Canada has sent DART, the water filtration team and machine, to clean out mud and filth so that all available sources of water can be made drinkable.

It’s things like these that Haiti needs most right now: basic supplies for living such as food, water, shelter and emergency medical care.   If you know anyone who may be interested in donating or going and doing, please let them know they could be involved in some way.

Here in Chilliwack, there are at least two key organizations involved in the relief efforts that could use support from our community here.

The first is Kings Kids Ministries:  They work with a transition home of at least 7 youth, and work with various orphanages in the country doing medical care and provision. As of yet there has been no word from anyone at the transition home.

The second is Hungry For Life International: They are a non-profit that works worldwide that sends teams of support. They build schools, churches and medical clinics, provide medical and health needs, living basics such as food and water, as well as

education for children.

If you would like to contact either of these organizations to help, please see below:

I currently write this in Vancouver at a coffee house. Unfortunately I am away from Chilliwack for school, school that has not said a single word about this horrible event in class. So much for education.

Lovingly,

Nicole Kornelson
